Project Ara is one of the most interesting project by Google, but at the same time many wonder how they will materialise for the final consumer. Gradually we began to learn more, and now we know that a developer version will arrive later this year. As for the first commercial version , we will have to wait until next year.
To show the true potential of modular smartphones, Google uploaded a new video where we can see how amazing it is a device of this kind , enabling change modules according to need: cameras, more drums, microphones, speakers, a touch pad, etc.
As we see, the modules are coupled with a system of magnets , though I wonder if it so when it reaches the market. We know that this is one of the challenges to overcome, because with daily use may lose strength and the possibility of losing any of the modules. It finally may end up opting for a mechanism that anchor in a safer way, but less quickly than the system we see in the video.
Anyway, in this first device, it appears that the display, processor and battery would be integrated and could not be modified something that may disappoint many. Instead, we see that there is a strong aesthetic component, and each module will help customize the smartphone.
