It is not normal that a plane falls, and much rarer still is that the airplane is never found, but it does happen. It is easy to find on the Internet the list of missing aircraft, but cartodb have wanted to represent that list as an interactive map.

Today here in lfdodds.cartodb.com allows us to see the disappearances worldwide, showing the year of the same next to each of the points. You only need to pass the mouse over them to see the details, with the name of the company and the journey being done.

Red is possible to see the last known case, the flight of Malaysia Airlanes where the plane disappeared over 200 passengers in an extremely above average flight number we can find there.

Overall are planes and small aircraft with less than 10 passengers, easy to get lost in the jungle or the ocean, why the case of 2014 is so strange, especially if we consider that the technology available now very different from what we had in the years 50-60 ago, when they disappeared a lot of planes on the same map.

If you want more information about this list, you have it on this Wikipedia page , where you can see how effectively flight Malaysia is a record from the point of view of existing passengers inside the plane.
