Alibaba's has announced the acquisition of $ 1 billion shares of Lazada. Lazada is one of the business e-commerce market most famous in Southeast Asian countries. With a broad product categories, from housewares, clothing to cosmetics and consumer electronics items, Lazada existing extensive distribution network in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and in Vietnam.
Lazada acquisition shows the importance of e-commerce market in Southeast Asia in the eyes of investors as Jack Ma. This is considered an extremely potential market for e-commerce with more population to 560 million people. Besides the acquisition Lazada, Alibaba is showing ambition to build an ecosystem of e-commerce both with owning their own wholesale channels (Alibaba.com), retail (Taobao and Lazada), logistics (SingPost and Lazada own logistics department) and payment (HelloPay).
In the past few years, Lazada has grossed $ 700 million from donors and foundations as Kinnevik Investment, Temasek, Tengelmann Ventures, and Verlinvest, and Summit Partners.
